Impasto

In the series of My Favourite Objects, this painting has to go with me to the desert island. I bought it on impulse at an auction. It is by a Cornish painter who was painting in the 1930's I believe. The paint is applied so thickly that the canvas needs restretching. Also, it could do with a clean but I can't find anyone to do the job. The painting changes through the day depending on how the light falls on the paint so sometimes the painting seems as if it is depicting strong morning light, at other times later in the day. It reminds me of childhood holidays.
