Snowdrop

This is Snowdrop, one of the Mersey Ferries, entering Latchford Locks on the Manchester Ship canal on one of the cruises which run between Liverpool and Manchester.

My plan was to go up and take a shot as she approached the locks but when I arrived I thought that I had missed her so set off for home along the canalside. About a mile down the road I heard her approaching so turned around and headed back to the locks.

I just made it before her but didn't get the head on shot that I was hoping for. I took a number of shots around the locks and I will post a few of them on my Blipfolio this evening.

Today the running of the inland waterways was handed over by the government to a charitable trust to run. The deal is that the government will fund 30% of the running costs for the next 15 years. I am not sure if this is a good or a bad thing for the canal network and trust which is now the third largest owner of historical buildings in the country behind the government and the National Trust.

None of this will affect the Manchester Ship canal which is operated by the Manchester Ship canal company which is part of Peel Ports which in turn is part of the Peel Holdings Group.

A few more images on my blipfolio showing the journey through the locks.
