Brookwood

Another busy day today but a good one. Firstly I took Son1 to Guildford for his driving theory test which he just missed passing by one point. This is one of those situations when it's difficult being a twin but he was philosophical about it and, as I pointed out, when it's that close it comes down to the luck of the questions you get on the day. Anyway, we've booked another date for him in March and I'm sure he'll pass it at the second attempt.

I then picked Katie up from Woking station and we went on a previously arranged visit to Brookwood Cemetery. We've been planning to visit Brookwood for some time, having been to some of the 'Magnificent Seven' cemeteries in London which are along similar lines. There are those who would say that visiting cemeteries for pleasure is a strange thing to do but I find them endlessly fascinating (well, I do research mortuary practice). I also find them very beautiful and Brookwood is particularly so. There are more than 250,000 people buried in its 400 wooded acres and we barely scratched the surface today.

We had a fish and chips lunch afterwards and then paid a quick visit to the Lighthouse museum in Woking on the way back to the station. I had wanted to pop in because there is currently an exhibition of Constable's meteorological landscape artwork (well, I am the daughter of a meteorologist). It was really interesting, as was the 'Woking's Story' gallery which we nipped into on the way out. We were captivated by the sections on Brookwood Cemetery and also Brookwood Hospital (formerly asylum).
