The Janus Horse

This morning I managed a walk in the drizzle before the serious rain started. I walked around Oswestry Racecourse, an area of common land that was a racecourse from the early 17th Century until 1848 when the coming of the railways meant that it was easier to transport horses and public to larger venues.

The photo is of the Janus horse sculpture (named after the Roman god with heads facing in two directions). This horse has one head facing England and the other facing Wales as it is on the border.

In the background is the remaining part of the grandstand from it's racing days.

Now instead of horse racing it has lots of easy walks around it, wild flowers, birds and lovely views to the Berwyns.
