Dundas
Another multi blip holiday day and in some ways the most satisfying so far. We took public transport to the eastern outskirts of the city to go to the zoo. If you don;t know your way around subways and bus route number and stops in a big city it can be very intimidating. The first guy we`spoke to at the booth on the first subway line pointed us in the right direction and every thing went as smooth as silk, two trains and then a bus. The subway stations, rolling stock and linking corridors are spotlessly clean, the trains and buses are frequent and it is really dirt cheap. In fact it is what public transport should be like in the UK. If you want people off the roads with their cars there has got to be a clean reliable alternative. The other notable aspect to the Toronto system is that a great deal of trust and honesty is placed on the shoulders of the commuter. While we paid the correct amount to the last cent I couldn't see anything to stop access to a platform by simply tossing a washer in the receptacle but every one seems to dutifully pay the right amount.
Anyway the zoo was good and our youngest in particular enjoys reading about animals and nature. There was lots of animal blip shots but we often go to Kincraig at home too. Also the sky scrapers and towers gleam in the scorching heat but tonight just as it got dark I went along the road to the corner shop for a couple of bits and pieces and walked past the junction of Dundas and Yonge Street. There is a square and live music blasting out in the back ground and thousands of folk are milling about, so that is the blip.
