Shackleton's departure

The photo allegedly shows the crew being left as Shackleton and a small crew set off to get help. Their  ship had been crushed by the ice. It was tremendous feat of navigation, 1500 km,  in a small boat, the James Caird. They landed on South Georgia then had to climb the mountains to get to a whaling station. All the crew survived.
