Model Sailing Club, Mote Park Lake
Another walk into town this morning, rewarded with a coffee at Pops. Mission accomplished we walked home for a late lunch. This gentleman, from Cygnets Model Boat Club, was proud of his various models and was, like us, not that fond of his testosterone fuelled fellow members who blasted their power boats around the lake on a Saturday morning. More skill in sailing a boat remotely than revving an engine he reckoned.
Spent some of the afternoon writing a letter of complaint to a travel insurance company who are being awkward over a claim we made back in September last year.
Time for a quick run and a very quick tea before travelling to the Gulbenkian Theatre in Canterbury to see Fairport Convention. The Gulbenkian is an excellent theatre for visibility, we had a clear view of the band, but they must have had the air con on as there were blasts of draughty air blowing down on us.
That didn't distract from the performance of Fairport Convention, a band we've seen a few times in the past. Such talented musicians and songwriters. Chris Leslie deserves special mention because of his multi instrumental capability. Tonight he played guitars, mandolin, banjo, mouth organ and whistle but he's also a virtuoso on the violin and goodness knows what else. Ric Saunders (violin and ukulele) Simon Nichol (guitar) Dave Pegg (bass guitar) and Gerry Conway (drums) were all superb too.
Fairport have been around since 1967 and while this is not the original lineup, members have come and gone and come again, the current band has two members from the original group and has been playing in this form since 1997.
