Lisa's life...

St Andrews, Soham

Builders arrived bang on time this morning and Stella was very vocal about it. I took her out for an earlier than usual big walk to give them an hour's peace!

They've got on really well already, despite uncovering yet more of my predecessor's DIY disasters! We've come to the conclusion that he must have been acquiring materials from jobs he was meant to be working on as a carpenter as not much is actually right for the job it was intended for. This also means my loft insulation is actually wall insulation so half the thickness it ought to be. Brilliant. That will have to wait, though, I'm on a kitchen mission now!

The extra is taken with me standing where the wall was; behind me the brickwork that was put in is shocking. Myself and one of the boys commented that we'd have made a better job with Lego! No wonder I feel like the wall moves when I open the back door, it actually does :(

The plumbing concreted into the floor was yet another brief moment of hilarity as they found 3 different sizes of pipe hashed together to make connections and they're not quite sure of the best way now to get my new radiators where I want them.

Today was a good day for ordering such though as Homebase had 20% off. I also ordered the new bigger door. Probably a good job I wanted a change as when they removed the old one there had been no lintel fitted (hence the wooden supports in the extra photo).

The 2 doors I've had removed though are really good quality so I may well stick them on eBay.

It's thought the kitchen was originally in the end that was made into a spare room. That would make sense as the stopcock is under the window in there so I expect the sink was originally there. It may well be again when I start looking at layouts.

Anyway, in other good news, keeping busy with a very long walk and the first cut of the grass this year meant I'd done my 10,000 steps before Stella's teatime and I'm feeling rather chuffed with myself :)

Oh and Stella's blogged about our Sunday walk in Ely.
