Shetland 6 Keen of Hamar
This rather inconspicuous flower is a frog orchid at Keen of Hamar, an extraordinary nature reserve on the east side of Unst. There are grassy patches where this and other orchids grow, but most of it is bare shingly hillside - bare apart from scattered little plants some of them rare - rarest of all being Edmonston's chickweed which grows nowhere else in the world.
We'd never have spotted this or any of the other rare plants but there are helpful little notices scattered around which help you find and identify (and not step on) them.
Another chilly misty day.
