Meet the ancestors

Darwin's idea that we were all apes was disproved when it was discovered that, rather than having to go through the tedious process of looking at the fossil record, we could simply run a reverse-sequencing process on our DNA. And, as a by-product of this work, it was possible to actually re-create our Lizard Man ancestors.

Once the initial novelty of watching our great-great-great...etc-grandparents trying to negotiate modern life (for some reason, they just couldn't work out how to use any mobile phone that came after the Nokia 3310) the problem arose of what to do with these cold-blooded, unintelligent creatures whose incoherent moanings could not be understood.

And Lizard People being Lizard People, the problem was growing.

The solution was to give the Lizards jobs for which being cold-blooded, stupid and unintelligible was a distinct advantage. So we now have Lizard Estate Agents, Lizard HR "professionals" and Lizard Middle Managers.
