Richmond from Station Bridge
The long journey from Edinburgh to Kent seemed longer than usual today. We left just after 10.30am and arrived home at 9.15pm. Slow along A1 to the border, following two large slow moving loads.
Then we made a detour to Richmond, just off the A1 at Scotch Corner to visit the Station Cafe where they have the best scones in the country. And they didn't disappoint. This shot was taken from the old Station Bridge looking across the River Swale to houses high up on the valley top. The station was closed as a railway in the 1960s but the building was reopened as a community enterprise in 2007 with cinema, galleries, shops, bakery, brewery and cafe.
Journeying south we were confronted by a phantom closure at J34 on A1(M). The matrix signs said A1(M) closed at J34, Blyth Services. Yey we couldn't find any reference on the internet nor did the radio traffic announcements refer to what would have been a significant closure.
In the end we went east on M62 then south on M18, crossing A1(M) and joining up with the M1 for the rest of the journey to the M25. Apart from a phantom accident on M25 the rest of the journey was reasonably uneventful.
