Gift Horse

'Gift Horse, by the German-American artist Hans Haacke, features an LED bow showing a ticker of the latest London stock prices tied round the bronze skeleton of a horse. It is being seen as a symbol of the ravages of the market. The riderless horse is a wry reference to an equestrian statue of William IV originally planned for the plinth, but which never came to fruition due to a lack of funds.'
Jode, Aafke and I went to Chinese celebration of the New Year at Trafalgar Square this afternoon. Very lively, colourful and atmospheric - but I was really taken with this striking piece of sculpture.
