Sweet and sour

As I mentioned yesterday, one of my aims for 2016 is to make sourdough bread. I had a book about it from the library, and then researched online. I spent a whole morning watching youTube videos about it. There's a lot of enthusiasm out there, and rightly so..how exciting to make a loaf of bread using only 3 ingredients - flour, water and salt - the yeasts come from the air around us and do all the important bit.
At first, the whole business of making a starter seemed impossibly complicated, but it turns out that it isn't difficult at all. One week later, and I'm having sourdough for breakfast, with jam from last summer's raspberries.
Now the rest of the starter is sitting waiting in a cool place and when I am ready to make bread again, I will feed it and warm it up and the whole magical process begins again.
(On one video I watched, the man explained how his starter had been handed down through three generations of his family, who had kept it going for 70 years!)
