Seed Skeleton

This seed head has intrigued me for months. I can't remember the plant, and I'm amazed it's survived all the wind and rain we've had this winter. 

I've been meaning to photograph it for ages, but as it's in a pot in the garden I kept forgetting it was there. I noticed again today as I went out to fill up the bird (& squirrel!) feeders.

As I hadn't been anywhere with my camera today, I've spent some time this evening crawling around on the floor, taking many photos of it!
