Sandwood Bay.
Been working hard all week, so decided to go for a walk today. But where?
Durness perhaps? And then we decided. Sandwood bay.
A beautiful day, cold and frosty, and brilliant sunshine. A few scatterd showers, but scattered in such a way they all missed us - save for a few snowflakes..
Our start was delayed by some urgent business, and we didn't get out until gone 2. Arrived at Blairmore and the car park around 2.45.
So a quick march was called for to get there and back before dark. It's a nine mile round trip including a stroll along the beach. As you can see, it was the perfect day. The main picture is looking South to Am Buachaille, a natural rock stack just beyond the end of the beach. The extra is looking North to Cape Wrath. The keen eyed among you may notice the lighthouse halfway up the Westerly headland (I can't see it, but could in real life!). Tanni had a great time chasing a ball up and down the sand dunes, she's exhausted now.. As we left the beach, a huge storm swept out to sea from the Cape, and only gave us a sprinkling of snowflakes. Following the same route back, the quick march slowed to an aching stroll, perhaps this was a bit ambitious for the first long walk since Xmas. We had to negotiate some wobbly stepping stones in the dark.
Once at the car, Tanni had a quick rub down with a towel, and we set off for home in blizzard conditions. Car thermometer went down to -1 deg C..
