Baking Competition - Spanish Style!
The wind continues it's ceaseless battering of Almerimar and surrounding area.
Last night the Plumber came to do the small job required. So work can continue on Monday.
This morning Al was at extra choir practice with the orchestra for their Concert in March. Afterwards there was to be a lunch of Paella and Postres. Al usualy goes with H his Belgian friend - they take it in turns to drive. This morning Al was taking H and so his wife M picked me up to go to the lunch afterwards. It was to be held in a Community Hall similar to Village Halls in England. It was huge with tables set up at one end for about 50 people. You could have put a jet in the place as it looked just like a Hangar! It was cold and we spent most of the time with out coats on!
However the meal was good with the usual cold meats, cheese and bread to start which the Choir members had done. A couple came in and brought a portable gas ring and huge pan to make the Paella in. It was very good. Some of the Ladies of the Choir had baked either cakes or desserts and there was to be a competition with a prize for the winner.
Our friend M was asked to be one of the judges and to sample them all. Well she is quite a large lady so she said I expect they want someone who is fat to taste them! She came over to us after the tasting to say that some were really good but most were awful!! We didn't bother queuing up as we were already full!
We had a great afternoon though and thoroughly enjoyed it. The odd thing is that the El Ejido Town Hall had given some money to the choir for this purpose as a thank you for singing at the Three Kings in January!
You would think they could spend the money better!!
