Limestone woodland.

One of the many features of the Arnside/Silverdale AONB is woodland growing in among limestone pavement.

The limestone gets covered with mosses. Many of the trees in this patch are Yews and Hazels. But the very large multi-stemmed tree which dominates this shot is a small leaved lime. Although it has many stems it is in fact all one tree with many new trunks coming up from the original root ball.

It will no doubt appear again in the summer when its full majesty can be admired.
