From the summit of Bow Fell (2960 feet)

Over 8 miles there and back from the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, via Mickledean and Rossett Gill to Angle Tarn and Ore Gap to the summit returning via The Band.

Quite a bit of snow over 1800 feet and patches of hard ice too. We hadn't got any micro spikes but I think we'll be getting some for the next winter walk.

Quite spectacular atmospheric conditions with cloud drifting in and out giving glimpses of mountains and valleys. Cold but so calm, hardly a breath of wind on the summit, yet this Fell is only 40 feet below 3000 feet and there are only 4 of them in the Lakes; Scafell Pike, Scafell, Skiddaw and Helvellyn with Scafell Pike at 3210 feet being the highest point in England.

As we reached the summit the clouds drifted apart and revealed the surrounding peaks all blanketed in mist. Quite something and a memory that will remain forever in the mind. This shot hardly does the view justice.

The way down was much easier than it had the right to be. After encountering ice on the ascent we were fearing the worst on the descent. But fortunately there was much more deep snow on this side of the mountain and we made good time getting back into the valley, even so we had to wear head torches for the last mile.

All in all, a challenging but memorable day. Another day of days. That's two in a row.
