Brightness of Eternity
For Lent, have decided to follow the book of poetry that I used two years ago - the heart's time, by Janet Morley, but this year, for now at least, will keep comments on - gratefully appreciating the human contact they give me during this fairly lonely time.
Here's the extract:
.......................Life is not hurrying
on to a receding future, nor hankering after
an imagined past. It is the turning
aside like Moses to the miracle
of the lit bush, to a brightness
that seemed as transitory as your youth
once, but is the eternity that awaits you.
- R S Thomas
Seems so relevant to us right now - not hankering after a past that we only remember the good bits of, nor hurrying to get into whatever we'll end up doing here in the Alentejo - but giving ourselves to this present moment and possessing the bright glimpses of eternity waiting for us right now, like these tête à tête on a very wet and windy day.
Wishing the same for each of you, my Blip friends.
