...The belly of the tiger...
This is an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, one of most showy butterflies and fairly common here this time of year. That said, I don't see them all that often so I did not want to miss the chance to blip this one - she's a beauty, isn't she? I also thought it would be fun to show her from the underside rather than the more traditional view of the back. Her wing patterns are just as beautiful from this side, as you can see. Taken with Big Daddy, not the optimum lens for insects, but respectable.
I popped over to see my friend John, who owns the Good Hand Farm, and he has asked me to give him a hand finding photos for a new conservation/environmental website he is doing. He will probably use some of my shots but also needs other shots to support various content in the website. So it will be fun to see if I can find some interesting photos for him. All being done on a shoestring, of course. While I was at the farm, I took some pictures, including this one of his alpha rooster, one mean hombre! Not a bird you would want to mess with.
The hummers were rambunctious as usual today, and this aerial acrobatics shot was going to be my blip until the swallowtail came along. And speaking of hummers, thank you so very much for all the comments, stars, and hearts on yesterday's Kamikaze Hummie! I think it is one of my favorite hummer shots, so I'm glad you liked it, too.
Dinner tonight is fresh-from-the-farm chioga and golden beats, roasted along with sauted Swiss Chard from my garden and some chicken breasts from the grocer. The beats are roasting right now and the house if filled with the smell of them - my tummy is growling, demanding food! I think I'll top them with a little EVOO and some aged balsamic, and maybe a few sprinkles of goat cheese...
Happy Tuesday, blippers!
