Feral Chickens

There are a lot of different stories about these birds.  It is believed that they are descended from birds which were brought by the original inhabitants when they came from Polynesia 700 or more years ago.  In the 1990s there were several very severe gales which destroyed a number of large buildings and led to the release of many domestic chickens.  The belief is that these birds are the result of interbreeding between these 2 groups.
