Between fen and mountains

The back of beyond

I had to take a repaired longcase clock back to a customer way out on the fen near the Wash. My visiting Australian sister posed as a clockmaker's assistant and then we drove out to the sea wall beyond Gedney Drove End. The inhabitants around here are reputed to have webbed feet but this is most unfair! However, everybody recognises a 'foreigner' in these parts. The landscape of the salt marsh is desolate but striking and our peace was only disturbed by the RAF fighters practising manoeuvres overhead.
