Mystery

This morning, the storm of last night having passed, I went out in the sunshine to photograph this little nest.  I spotted it yesterday as I trudged my way along a very muddy footpath that runs from the old railway line, past the cricket ground, to St Peter's church on the edge of the village.  The nest is perched in a broken window of an old barn which, in turn, sits in the garden of a large Edwardian house.  Given it is still intact I would imagine it is from last Spring.  I wonder what type of bird nested here, why, and where she and her brood are now.  I will have to watch out to see if it used again this Spring.
