Diagnostic

Crocus pestalozzae, one of the smaller flowered species has one very distinctive feature which make it easy to recognise.  In the throat of the flower the filaments which support the anthers are black at the base.  E. A. Bowles suggested it looks as though three tiny grains of soil have lodged there.  It's a wee beauty which varies from white through all shades to this soft blue.
