If you can't beat them...

The Flying Scotsman

We discovered last night that the Flying Scotsman was coming over Shap to Carlisle so we decided it would make a good photographic opportunity.  So we headed out to a spot a few miles from home where we would get good view.  The farmer feeding his sheep gave us permission to go down his field but we didn't go too far as we would be getting in other peoples shots.

After the Loco passed we went up to Carlisle to see it in the station.  Out of all the shots I took this one appealed for a number of reason the juxtaposition of the old and the new, not to mention the view of some of the crowd.  The station was absolutely packed.

One highlight was chatting with Tom Hayton 47 years on the footplate of steam engines.  He had been on the Flying Scotsman when it was in service and was part of the last crew of the Mallard.  CC has an "extra" shot of him being interviewed for ITV.

The day was rounded off well with my first attempt at making Naan bread working extremely well, and it accompanied Clickychick's curry beautifully.
