A relic of our past

Struggling for a blip on this dullest of dull grey days but we did drive into Chichester to get tonight's dinner.  As we drove back we had to stop at the level crossing to wait for a train and this was the view out of the window.  Aren't these things obsolete now?  Just about everybody has a mobile phone of some sort. 
A good place to store traffic cones I think.
