Engine houses

At last a bit of sea in one of my Cornish blips. I am pleased to see that Cornwall's industrial heritage is being increasingly appreciated. These engine houses at Trewavas Head - less than three miles from our house - have been relatively recently purchased by the National Trust and the buildings have been "stabilized".
Now a peaceful spot with, to my eyes, the buildings adding to the beauty of the place, in the 1840s over 200 people were employed by these two mines. I imagine during that working life the area would have been an ugly polluting eye-sore. Nature can do a great job at tidying up our messes if we give her a chance.
Tonight the last leg of our gastronomic Cornish odyssey visiting the Thai Chef in Hayle with my cousin. Having first visited it over twenty years ago before Thai food was easy to find, I am pleased to say it lived up to our high expectations although none of us felt up to attacking the legendary crispy fried noodles!
