Kitty, Daisy and Lewis

Kitty, Daisy and Lewis are a trio of siblings with phenomenal musical talents and great taste in clothes. They embrace retro-style wholeheartedly and they all look utterly fabulous. They record using old-school equipment - no auto-tuning for them! - and their music encompasses blues, swing, country, ska, rock n' roll and more. All three of them are accomplished on several instruments which they swap around from song to song, and all take turns at lead vocals. I saw them play tonight at Leaf. And they ROCKED the joint, big time!

Accompanied by their dad, Graeme, on rhythm guitar and their mum, Ingrid, on bass they are proof positive that the family that plays together, stays together. They were also joined by legendary Jamaican trumpeter, Tan Tan Thornton, whose connection to Liverpool includes playing on The Beatles' 'Got To Get You Into My Life'. You can see and hear the whole band here www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvmOmafw2cs

It should also be noted that back in my schooldays, mum, Ingrid Weiss, occupied the drum stool in post-punk legends, The Raincoats, famously an influence on Kurt Cobain amongst many others (I found a great old picture of them here https://blindfieldjournal.files.wordpress.com/2015/09/raincoatss.jpg) and I was particularly pleased to see her now slapping the bass so awesomely!

The band played a terrific set of their own repertoire and finished with a barnstorming rendition of 'Going Up The Country' www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxW3Ed7GrhQ which knocked the Canned Heat version into a cocked hat!

Then, during the encores, Kitty and Lewis came down into the audience, still playing up a storm on blues harmonica and guitar respectively, and stood right by me - but all my photos of that particular incident are blurred owing to all the crowd shoving going on around me! Daisy remained behind the drum kit reminding me of Animal from the Muppet Show with her no-holds-barred playing style. And I mean that as a compliment.

Phew! What a night!

That's Lewis (above) and the extra photos are of Kitty (with guitar) and Daisy (at the unseen keyboard).
