A Cold, Wet Day

Dear Diary,

It poured rain most of the day but it iced up the trees.  Fortunately, the power stayed on.  My little chickadees looked so bedraggled!  It always amazes me how they manage in all the weather extremes we have here in the northeast.  We spend a great deal of time complaining about the weather too, as if it is all about us!  I especially like George Carlin's quote:

Weather forecast for tonight: dark.

That's about it.  We get so rankled about what it is doing outside because it interferes with our plans as if those plans are the most important thing on earth.  One thing you quickly learn in New England is adaptability.  In Nature it is the same.  Creatures adapt or they die...simple as that.

Only man has the extreme hubris to believe that they can control Nature...that we can do whatever we want with no repercussions.  The coal we dig in Pennsylvania effects the crops in east Africa, it's all connected.  That attitude probably accounts for the dire situation we find ourselves in today.  Now it is our turn to correct the mistakes of the past, if we can, and adapt our relationship with Nature to a more interdependent and caring one.  I can't even comprehend the outcome if we don't.
