Annie's Olympic Moment

Annie of Annie and Chris was one of the torch bearers today when the Olympic torch came through Oxford. I managed to get down to the Cowley Road and by chance found Chris and Keith there. How nice it was to meet these blippers in person (they do exist!)

It was nice to see a bit of it reasonably close up. Quite overwhelming in some respects, Annie was mobbed with people wanting to have their picture taken with her and the torch (I grabbed a few pictures which can be found here) and then the procession itself. All of a sudden the roadshow was moving along, 4 coppers either side, motorbike outriders, camera trucks. It must have been something to have been right in the middle of all of that. Well done Annie.

The whole thing was something to behold, yeah, yeah, yeah all the comments about the commercialism of it all, the sponsorship, the cost of all of this. Fair point. For a few minutes the Cowley Road in Oxford was all out on the pavement, people side by side, cheering, waving, chatting to people they have never met before. That alone was nice, and yes, it was one hell of a catalyst to make it happen, but lets just enjoy it!
