A good many books . . .

Blipfoto Dickens’ Challenge 2016

I cannot be up in this part of the world and not go to Barter Books in Alnwick and today was the day. Well, it was too windy to do anything else, although we have spent a lot of time just watching the waves (from the house).

For those who don’t know Barter Books, it is a treasure house of second hand books, one of the largest in the country. The books are housed in what was Alnwick station, closed in 1968. I bought a postcard of a remarkable montage, Ghost Train’, created by local photographer David Jones (see extra). He superimposed a 1960’s photograph of one of the last trains to leave the station onto a contemporary photograph taken by him on the same spot, now the bookshop.

Then I realised that this might meet the Blipfoto Dickens’ Challenge 2016.

Mr Brownlow says to Oliver “There are a good many books, are there not, my boy?” The books here are not quite floor to ceiling, but the ceiling is the station roof and, if you look carefully, you will catch a glimpse of the trains that run round and round above the books.
