Close to Home
Alone and unperturbed amidst the layers of debris,
the heron stands in stately innocence
of human tragedy...of human loss....
His eye, as piercing as his dagger beak,
surveys his home domain undaunted
by the inevitability of loss.
The slowly decaying drift beneath his planted foot
is as eternal as the present moment
in the heron's world.
I rather like the black and white in the extra better than the color that I am posting, but in the color all those layers of debris left behind by Hurricane Katrina and by the pottery workshops are clearly visible behind the the heron's oblivious stance.
