Field Trip
Today our class took a field trip to the Mercy Corps headquarters in Portland, Ore. We spent time learning about the great work of this international non-governmental organization and focused our learning primarily on the global clean water crisis. It takes approximately 1800 gallons of water to produce a pair of jeans and about 660 gallons are required for every 1/3 pound hamburger sold at your average fast food joint. Wow. What's your water footprint? If you're an average American, it's probably a lot more than you realize.
The mission of Mercy Corps is to "alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities." It's an incredible organization.
Many thanks to Karissa, from Mercy Corps, who did an excellent job facilitating our learning today!
