New Chums Bay

We brought our own but there were a few others there to get chummy with. What is it about sun, sand, waves and warm(ish) water that make you want to get wet? We should have brought that body board as Catriona kept reminding us but we had fun anyway.
This was  a spectacular day for the start our exploration of the Coromandel and Diane had worked out a great itinerary which allowed relaxed flexibility aka taking our time. We were visiting over a holiday weekend that coincided with the last few days of the New Zealand schools summer holidays so we knew it would be busy. As part of a cunning plan, which included C cycling in to Auckland to sell her bike first thing on Saturday morning, we didn't travel on Friday evening after work but rather we delayed till the following morning and the roads were surprisingly quiet. In fact, most places we passed were quiet - probably something to do with the vast numbers of empty boat trailers that we saw parked up. Everybody here seems to get on to the water as often as possible and this area is just made for swimming, fishing, diving and island hopping. Just as well C & D aren't staying longer or I would have had to spend some time persuading them that they needed a boat though at present I haven't worked out what boat I would have needed them to have...
More swimming planned tomorrow (though we are expecting a cyclone) but this evening we are watching tennis. Serena Williams to play Angelique Kerber and we have mixed support in our group. Someone isn't going to be happy.
