Sunshine and downpours

This afternoon I went to see Philharmonia Orchestra play Holst's 'The Planets' at the Royal Festival Hall. It's one of the best classical concerts I've been to. The first half of the concert broke down each of the planet themes to explain what each tune was about and how it achieved the sensations we feel while listening (the groups of notes and the intervals, etc.) It was fascinating and really enhanced the enjoyment of listening to the entire suite in the second half. I need to go to see the Science Museum Universe of Sound, which has been curated in conjunction with this concert.

Of course, the concert clashed with the Murray game. One of our number dropped out so she could watch it on TV. The rest of us caught up in the interval and afterwards. Poor Murray, but he gave it a great shot.
