Are these the blackest berries ever?

My eldest brother tells me this is deadly nightshade. Long ago, when I was a reporter in the Hawera branch office of the Daily News in Taranaki, a reader came in to complain about an article - on the gardening page. Apparently it stated that deadly nightshade was deadly, whereas this reader insisted it was perfectly safe in small amounts. Indeed, he made jam from deadly nightshade berries. I declined the offer of a jar, and promised to pass his complaint along to head office...
