Going, going ...

Gone. Well, almost. Tomorrow is the end of an era. In Solihull, traditional home of Land Rover, the very last Land Rover Defender in its current form will drive off the end of the production line on Friday 29th January 2016. It will be a sad day for an exceptional vehicle, beloved of farmers, adventurers and Royalty, as well as being an ultimate explorer of all the wild places on earth.

This thoroughly British four-wheel-drive utility vehicle has had a continuous production run of almost 68 years, although it has only been badged as the Defender since 1990.

Along with the original Mini, Jaguar E-Type, and Volkswagen Beetle, the Defender is one of very few cars with an unmistakable silhouette, and that can truly claim iconic status. Goodbye to a motoring legend.
