Lumiang Cave Coffins
Jane and Dan went on a 4-hour spelunking (caving) trip and as i've been in one of the caves before a few years back, I decided not to go as I knew my knee couldn't take all the bending and I was scared i'd injure myself further by slipping on the wet rocks. So I was left to keep the old coffins company at the mouth of Lumiang cave, the entry to the cave connection to Sumaging Cave. It was quite peaceful there and not spooky at all, considering these coffins have been there for hundreds of years. Some of the coffins had cracks on them and you can see inside the bones of long dead. Some coffins were long and others stubby and short. According to our guide, the men were placed inside the coffin in a fetal position while the women, not liking that pose, preferred to be laid to rest in a straight lying down position hence the need and presence of the longer coffins.
I quite enjoyed exploring the area on my own although Jane being Jane argued I needed a guide to keep me company and safe. Like I would agree to that! :). The locals are pretty friendly and as long as you are not rude to them, you won't have to worry about getting harassed.
The cave connection is pretty special as there is a natural pool inside where you can go swimming, that is if you can stand to swim in 15degC water temp! i trekked down to the exit of the cave connection thinking i'd wait for them there. Got bored waiting so decided to further explore the area and by the time I got back to the cottage we were renting, both Jane and Dan were already showered and enjoying the local beer at the cafe right beside the cottage. I had no idea I was gone that long! Time surely flies when you're mesmerized by a beautiful landscape.
We ended the day with a full body massage. The two deserved and needed it and I would jump at any excuse to get another pampering!
Happy days indeed! :)
