Behind The Screens

Many years ago, when we lived in Johannesburg, we used to 'enjoy' a family night at the drive-in movies once a week. Didn't always work as planned: The warm-up ads were so long that the kids were usually snoring in the back seat before the main feature started.

This afternoon we drove along a back road and discovered the three-screen 5 Drive-in which, in the daylight, wore the dingy look of careless abandonment. However, a glance at the movies on the posters told us that, far from being derelict, the 5 is still very much in operation - every night of the week, during the summer months.

We're going to take a nostalgic trip out there, just to see if the fond memories of poor images, crap sound and bad food will be erased. Or not.
