Up until the end of the 1950s inhabitants of the local village would collect all of their water from the village spring. At the start of the 1960s a water main was laid and water became available on tap within the houses of the village. Flush toilets were retro-fitted to existing houses in cubicles on the first floor balcony. While this may seem a little indiscreet to our modern sensibilities, it was a lot more discreet than going behind undergrowth at the edge of the village.
As you stroll around the village it is therefore very simple to work out whether a house was built before or after 1960. The village spring is still there and seems to be undergoing a bit of a facelift, which is nice.
