We went over to Siesta Key Beach this morning on the way to the gym and the beach was absolutely littered with shells......I've never seen anything like it on this beach!  We don't know if it was because of the cooler weather the evening before or the high tide, but there were THOUSANDS of shells on the beach, most of them with critters still inside!  All the people out there looking through the shells were very busy throwing the ones back in the water that had something alive inside.  We went back in the evening, just before sunset and there were still tons of shells on the beach and some critters but not as many as in the morning, so hopefully most of them made it back into the sea.  The photos are a baby octopus (back in the sea after I shot this) and a variety of broken shells around a starfish, and a view of a section of the beach with all the shells...  Truly remarkable experience.
