Bustin' out all over!
This is a climbing vine by the name of Bomarea edulis, a native of Central and South America, related to the better known Alstroemeria.
I've been watching this plant for a few weeks, waiting to catch the seeds before they fall. It's not hardy, but grows well enough in a cold glasshouse here. It was given to me by a friend who was until recently Curator at Glasgow Botanic Garden, but who is now retired.
I love the way the pods gradually begin to split open, revealing the gorgeous shiny seeds inside. Apparently the tubers are edible, hence the name, but I suspect that spuds would be a tiny touch cheaper!
