Sue Foll's picture of the day

Love

An exhibition of Saul Leiter's work has just opened at the Photographers' Gallery in London. I'm a huge fan so put my Monday morning exercise to good purpose and got there first thing.

"You chose the right time" said the receptionist . "We had two thousand here over the weekend".

Saul developed a really strong sense of colour in his photography when it was deeply unfashionable. His colour palette sings like Rothko. In addition his pictorial vocabulary includes reflection, shadow, bad weather, everything that makes life interesting.

One of my favourite pictures from today was a low key picture of a man in a hat on a train, grubby windows speaking volumes. Pictures of New York City in the snow are remarkably timely.

Go see it.

Thanks for all your lovely comments about my Madonna yesterday. x
