Big Save Big Day
Two down and one to go.. after the high of a huge performance yesterday afternoon when they defeated to league leaders and took their unbeaten record away the two hour road trip for the early face off in the Scottish Cup semi final today.
The family slept as I drove through the darkness, there is something cathartic about driving when the roads are so quiet but also something tiring and by the time we arrived my head was thumping. With everyone bleary eyed the first period was sluggish, heavy legs from yesterdays game taking time to lighten up. The second period saw a change of gear, quick passing quick skating and the shooting boots back on and by the end of the period we were comfortable with a 5 goal lead.
The third period saw the opposition throw caution to the wind and they were reigning shots in from long range, lots of bodies in the way makes it difficult to see the puck early, it sounds strange but a lot of the big saves are made before the puck is even struck, Mimi is coached to watch the stick and the shooters skates as it gives a good indication where the puck will go but with the traffic in front this is difficult and often just impossible.
Mimi's reactions were exceptional today dialled in from the moment she got between here pipes and she took a lot of shots but ultimately broke the hearts of the opposition. For the team a march to the final and for Mimi and shut out. Here we see a close in slap shot, hit very well with a lot of power but Mimi simply closed her glove on the puck and pulled it into her body like a drill at training
Fraser played very well too, assured and solid as were the whole team, three days, three games, three wins... exceptional
