Cork Oak
Opposite the main entrance to Osborne House is this splendid Quercus suber more commonly known as a Cork Oak. It is a primary source of material for cork bottle stoppers and flooring.
Not much chance of this one being used for such purposes though, it was planted by Prince Albert himself in December 1847. Just a few yards away is a similar one planted by Princess Alice during the same month.
