Red Bull Defiance - Day 2
Another grueling day for the athletes. It was raining when they set off at 6.30 a.m. this morning. Not sure if they ran to The Outlet or kayaked there. The race continued (in kayaks) down the Clutha River to Oxbow, where the kayak leg finished. (20 ks). From Oxbow the teams partook in a clay-bird shoot exercise, each team member getting 1 shot each. From there teams rode their mountain bikes on the epic climb up to the Pisa Range via Criffel Station. Then the course descended down to the bottom of the Cardrona Valley floor.(28ks). The last leg was running the Skyline track, up Spotts Creek, over the summits of Mt Alpha and Roy's Peak. Once at lake level there was a 4 k run to the finish line. (25 ks)
This photo is of the leading team reaching the road at the end of the run down Roy's Peak. Only 4 k's to go. The back guy could hardly walk!!! I am not surprised. The rain soon cleared so most of today's race was in warm and cloudy conditions.
