f1.8 - depth of field

My photo challenge this week is to explore the effect of different aperture settings. I took my first non-auto shots on Thursday. Thankfully my 50mm lens has a wide aperture of f1.8. For comparison I also tried the same shot with smaller apertures, but the light level indoors at night is too low for me to avoid camera shake at anything above f1.8. I need to get outside!
