Fiery start
"Red sky at night, shepherd's delight.
Red sky in the morning, the barn's on fire"
Or something. I'm not across all this country-wise weather lore stuff but this got me thinking about the aphorisms with which we are now surrounded. "Be the change you wish to see in the world". What does this really mean? I know it's claimed to be one of Gandhi's but this is disputed as is a derivation "We need to be the change we wish to see in the world". I think I prefer the latter as at least it means that it isn't all down to me; we can share that load, but I'm not sure that either stands much scrutiny. I've already mentioned "Tomorrow's future today" which was the tag line of the local academy school. I've noticed that they've dropped this so I can only assume that they have taken on someone who understands that education and trite slogans are not only poor bedfellows but having young, eager minds seeing signs like this five days a week can only lead to a glut of people who think that saying this guff is more important than actually doing stuff; that would be ridiculous. And putting this rubbish in front of school children seems to be a short step away from the idea of having socialist realism posters on the walls and the latest tractor production numbers. No idea how I got here from the sunrise this morning. As you'll see it was rather lovely and set the tone for a rather lovely day which might segue into a lovely evening and a beer.
