What the Butler saw
Was 9 elegant ladies of advancing years, several pairs of spectacles and stereo hearing aids and a lovely lunch at Pat's for Sarah's 75th Birthday. I was one of those ladies and as I had gratefully accepted this invitation some weeks ago I got out of going to work today. It was indeed a lovely lunch with champagne, kindly donated by the Butler!! and we all brought a contribution to the lunch; I had an easy item of a salad bowl to accompany a very fine ham, cooked by our host, quiches, homemade coleslaw and various salads. The puddings were scrummy and so they should be as they were made by two ex-cookery teachers. Our Butler for the day was also a guest and the once senior partner for the Law Firm I worked/still work for!! He retired about 10 years ago, but is still an avid skier and golfer and an all round lovely guy. He made an excellent Butler and was not at all fazed by being the only male in the company of all us ladies.
