The Exhibition
In our village we have a community organisation called "Learning for Pleasure". It grew out of a number of suggestions that were raised in a Parish Consultation. The basic philosophy is that there are many individuals with skills and talents within any community that others in the community would like to acquire. Learning for Pleasure is a vehicle that recruits those individuals with skills and offers a range of opportunities for those in the wider community to acquire them.
For the last 5 years I have run a number of basic and more advanced courses on digital photography. Because it takes place mid-week during the day it attracts quite a limited pool of people (Retired, unemployed, Mums and others at home during the day).
My present course consists of a dozen students (all female). We started last September. Three of the course members had compact cameras and had never turned them on and one member didn't own a camera at all (she does now). Between September and December and January to June we met for 2 hours each week with the usual breaks.
My blip today is an exhibition of their work in the local Methodist Church. Their work was displayed together with work from the Art Group and one of my former groups who decided they wished to stay together (calling themselves Happy Snappers) and continue producing photographs.
My present group in addition to this display have produced Photo books and slide shows using Photo Story 3.
